Lawn Care in Moneta, VA

Moneta sits on Smith Mountain Lake, and the properties reflect it — bigger lots, heavier tree cover close to the house, and a good number of homes nobody is standing in day to day. Problems here tend to be found late.

Gutters fill faster in Moneta than anywhere else we work. Tree canopy sitting close to the roofline is the reason, and it's why so much of our work here is on a ladder rather than behind a mower.

Local know-how

What Bedford County's rules mean for you

Every town around here handles yard debris differently, and it changes what you should expect from whoever you hire.

  • There's no curbside collection at all. Bedford County doesn't provide trash pickup — residents haul to a convenience center or hire a private hauler. Nothing goes to the curb here, so debris is your problem until someone drives it away.
  • The Moneta convenience center takes bagged household waste and recycling. Yard waste and brush aren't part of that, so limbs and leaves mean a longer trip to a full-service site or the county facility in Bedford.
  • Brush is only accepted in two short windows a year. Full-service centers take yard waste roughly mid-April to mid-May and mid-October to mid-November. The second window tends to close before the heaviest leaf drop is finished — which is precisely when most people want it gone.

Dates and site services change — bedfordcountyva.gov lists current hours and what each center accepts. The pattern of short seasonal windows is the part worth planning around.

Questions about Moneta.

What happens to the debris if there's no curbside pickup?

It goes with us. That's the whole point out here — there's no curb to leave it at, the Moneta site doesn't take yard waste, and the county's brush windows are only open a few weeks a year.

What if I'm not there when you come?

Plenty of properties around the lake are second homes. We don't need you on site to mow, clear gutters or do bed work. We do need to know about gates, dogs and anything we shouldn't touch.

Why do gutters need doing more often here?

Tree cover close to the roofline. Lake properties tend to keep mature canopy right up against the house, so gutters pack faster than they do on an open suburban lot.
